Lindsey Graham has had enough of Chuck Schumer and is dropping the hammer on the hapless and obstructionist Democrat.
The fight over the wall is really political theater – make no mistake the left thinks they can break Trump over this and are drawing a line in the sand under the false belief losing this fight will cause his base to leave him.
They think his reputation of being a winner and the fact that he likes to deliver on campaign promises would take such a hit that his base would leave him if he caves on the wall.
Here is what they don’t understand and why Trump will win in the end. One – his base will not leave him if he caves.
But the second reason is more important and shows how bad Schumer is at negotiating.
If these are the stakes – Trump loses everything if he caves while the Democrats lose nothing but a few billion that will take a few years to be spent due to eminent domain issues – then Trump can never nor will never cave. He simply can’t afford to.
The left has created that narrative and while Trump has asked for $5 billion and $2.5 billion the left remains obstinate.
A good deal has to have a little for everyone to get done and with the left hell bent on the total and complete political destruction of Trump, they won’t compromise.
They will not give him a way to exit the shutdown, while he has given them a few by lowering his ask on the wall.
Thus the shutdown is theirs. If you add those facts to what Lindsey just exposed about Chuck and Nancy, the left must come to their sense and reopen the government.
Lindsey told Sean Hannity, “The one thing that we have in common, as a member of the Senate, Speaker of the House, Minority Leader of the Senate, and the President of the United States… we have a bunch of people guarding us with guns. It’s pretty hard to get into the Capitol, really hard to get into the White House.”
“All the President is saying is… I’d like to provide more security to the American people. It is a crisis, Sean,” Lindsey added.
“I’ve tried to be reasonable and practical, but when it comes to immigration, I’m flabbergasted to hear from my Democratic colleagues who have voted for billions of dollars in border security money… that this is manufactured.”
“Was it manufactured when Obama wanted the money? No. Why did you give the money to Obama and Bush if it was a manufactured crisis? Graham asked, referring to Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer.
“To my Democratic friends: how many Caravans have to rush the border until you believe we have a problem?” Graham asked before explaining that there are 300,000 people waiting for asylum claims to be adjudicated, while we are spending $750 a day to take care of the 11,000 unaccompanied minors from Central America we are housing.
“Nancy Pelosi says end the shutdown, Donald Trump says security the border. How about this: let’s secure the border, then end the shut down.” Graham suggested.
“There is a deal to be had here, but it’s hard to get a deal when people you’re dealing with call you racist because you want a border security wall, give you a dollar and say that’s enough, accuse border control agents of gassing children when mobs run toward our border.”
“We’re dealing with pretty radical people here and we’re never going to get a deal until the radicals are set to the side and we get reasonable people to deal with.”
“You know what I think is immoral, trying to accuse people who are trying to defend the nation honestly and working hard and trying to put their lives at risk as being the problem, not the coyote, not the drug dealer, not the terrorist.”
“Democrats want to fight, they’re gonna get one. If they want to solve the problem, we’ll do that too.”
